Description

State of Arizona 1882 $20 Date Back - One of Three Known

Clifton, AZ - $20 1882 Date Back Fr. 557 The First NB Ch. # (P)5821 PMG Fine 12.
A scarce bank which was this obscure community's only issuer. Around 4,000 people lived in Clifton when this note was issued, more than reside there today. Just large size notes were issued by this bank, and offerings are scant, with offerings average only every two to three years. Only 1,800 1882 $20 Date Backs were issued after statehood in 1912 by three different banks. Today, there are just three known from that grouping, making this one of the rarest notes to add to an Arizona type note set. While this offering has seen its share of circulated, it is wholesome, with solid paper for the grade and a deep blue overprint.
