Striking Red-ended Issued Deuce

Little Falls, NY- Herkimer County Bank $2 Sept 1, 1861 NY-1220 G54a SENC PMG Choice Fine 15 Net.
A striking example and the only example we have encountered. A miracle of survival in our view. We last saw this note at lot viewing for Smythe's January 2009 Schingoethe Part 9 sale. It sold for $2,515 there. Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson full red security end panels outlining tall "2." Added "ABC" monogram. Seated Agriculture at top center with titles. New York Bank seal left with signature space. Standing allegorical female at the right, but somewhat obscured by the deep red. Fully accomplished and sharp looking. Plated in the Don C. Kelly Obsoletes catalog. The net grade is for tape along the back left edge. However, the vibrant red end obscures that technical comment. An intriguing reappearance of this beautifully pedigreed note within this fascinating group.
