Pynchon Bank $50 "Declaration of Independence" Vignette Proof

W-MA-3140-050-G070a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.Most of the notes known from this interesting title are Proofs, either plated in Haxby, or the ten examples our "Feeling Good" consignor acquired at the 1990 Christie's sale and which we reoffered in our 2018 Long Beach auction. This example, one of two known, came from an earlier source but was not listed by Jim Haxby. India paper Proof by Danforth, Wright & Co. engraved "Presentation of the Declaration of Independence" at top right of center. A scarcer version of this well-known scene adapted from the Capitol painting. Allegorical female at the left and George Washington at the lower right. PMG notes this as previously mounted, which are old-time back side hinges from the D.C. Wismer period. Broad margins and very attractive. There are six POCs along the signature lines.
