Description
Boston, MA- Eliot Bank $20-$50-$100-$500 18__ as G12-as G14-as G16- as G20 Uncut Proof Sheet PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.The layout of this sheet is a bit surprising, since a $500 note is included. For most banks this would be a somewhat infrequently used high denomination note. In any case, the $20 features a portrait of Webster flanked by vignettes of a large sailing vessel and Ceres. The $50 has a portrait of John Quincy Adams as well as vignettes of a sailor and mechanic titled UNION at left and an allegorical vignette of Ceres, Hope, and Manufacturing at right. The $100 has vignettes of a Native American male and a steamer, while the $500 has a very interesting vignette of rescuers preparing to fire a life line from a small cannon out to a ship foundering in the surf. The sheet is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with six POCs in the signature spaces of each note. PMG mentions some foxing stains. There were twelve examples of this sheet in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale with a number having been subsequently cut.
