Description

Tallahassee, FL (Terr.)- Territory of Florida $2 January 8, 1830 Cr. T9 Benice 7 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
A very scarce note from the second territorial series, this piece was printed from the engraved plates by N. & S.S. Jocelyn, New Haven. Among the Criswell-Shull listed Southern States issues, it is quite distinctive due to its early 1830-period dates and engraved style. The top central vignette shows an allegorical female pouring a jug of water on the shore. Plenty is at left in a small circle. The right end shows a cursive TWO upon a vertical lathe panel. This is the Criswell plate note. Our current offering is both attractive and without problems. PMG notes it has been pen cancelled. The Newman note graded PCGS Apparent Choice New 63 and topped the $7,000 mark.
