Description

Cork, FL- William C. Brown 25¢ ND (ca. 1862) Benice 2 PMG Very Fine 25.
William C. Brown was a clerk in Edward A. Clark's store in Tampa in 1860. The war forced a move inland to Cork, FL (modern day Plant City, FL, Hillsborough County). While Clark was away, engaged in blockade running and resulting imprisonment, Brown ran the store and was appointed postmaster in 1863. After the war, Brown returned to Tampa and served in various municipal and county government positions. This is the first time we have offered anything from this issuer since auctioning a 10¢ note two decades ago which realized $2,530. A fully issued repair-free rarity with no meaningful impairments.
