Description
Washington, DC- Glory Bank $10 Satirical Note Apr. 1, 1834 Rulau Unlisted PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.A satirical note from the Hard Times era attacking United States Vice President and future President Martin van Buren as well as Andrew Jackson. A sun's rays are projected from the "O" in GLORY. The text on the note includes "PERISH CREDIT" and "PERISH COMMERCE." This "Experimental Currency" also includes the text "Battle of New Orleans." As often seen on these satirical notes, a vignette of a boar is included. The bank cashier is A(mos) Kendall who was a Jackson confidant and served as United States Postmaster General from 1835-40 in the Jackson and Van Buren administrations. The bank president is A(ndrew) Jackson. The note is well printed on bright paper with a small tear in the top margin at center. It is superior to the only other example of this design that is unlisted in Rulau which we auctioned in 2023 as part of our FUN Currency Signature Auction to realize $1,920.
