Description

CGA Gem 65 $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note

Fr. 1133 $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. A mere twelve examples of this number from the Philadelphia district are reported in the census, one of which is locked away in the Smithsonian. A run consisting of a small handful of notes must have been saved at one time, as the few high grade pieces that are known fall within a range of just a dozen or so serial numbers. This piece appears to be absolutely pristine inside the holder, and the excellent centering and adequate margins give credence to the assigned Gem grade. A remarkable Large Size $1,000 Fed, the finest that we have ever had to offer from this district since the similar note (serial number C3099A) that we sold in September, 1999 for $33,000. This important note should challenge that result from three and a half years ago.
