Description

Manilla, IA - $20 1902 Plain Back Fr. 659 The First NB Ch. # 5873
This community was settled in 1886 when the Milwaukee Road established a junction point with a roundhouse in Manilla. Citizens were asked to decide between naming their community Paupville, in honor of Les Paup, who sold his land to the railroad, or Manilla, and the question was settled by a tug of war, with the Manillans the victors. While eight large notes are in the census, Track & Price shows no offerings of any at public sale since the January, 1992 CAA Florida sale. PMG Very Fine 30, with clear purple stamp signatures of R.C. Jackson and Frank A. Brown.
