Description

Enticing 1861 $5000 Proof

Fr. 211 $5000 Hessler X129M (1436) 1861 Interest Bearing Note Proof With Five Coupons Attached Choice New, PC. All examples of this Friedberg number have been redeemed, leaving the paper money community content with the three known uniface proof notes for this design. The other two proofs have serial number "00000," while this plate letter B example is unnumbered. It is printed on card stock, and then backed with a thinner card stock that exhibits three adhesives for a former mounting. Four punch cancels are found along the signature lines, while the coupons remain unpunched. The two outside coupons each have a crease upon closer examination. This is an enticing proof with its steadfast Justice and quaint Indian maiden vignettes. Also, this $5,000 proof can be traced to the collection of Herman Halpern. Many years will probably pass before another opportunity arises for a Fr. 211 proof.
