Description

Rare Wheatley Hills NB of Westbury Note-First Offering in Fourteen Years

Westbury, NY - $10 1902 Plain Back Fr. 633 The Wheatley Hills NB Ch. # 11730
An excessively rare Nassau County note from one of the highest income areas in the New York metropolitan area in the era in which it was issued. Wheatley Hills was smack dab in the epicenter of Long Island's Gold Coast, which, in the Jay Gatsby era that this note was issued, was home to vast estates, opulent parties, and a gilded era lifestyle which ended with a bang in the stock market crash of 1929. Only three large examples are known, with this piece giving us the trifecta of having sold all of them, having sold the other two in our landmark Long Island sale of the Collection of a Gentleman in October of 1998. Neither of those notes has reappeared on the market during the past fourteen years, leaving this example as the only one likely to be available to collectors for the foreseeable future. PMG Choice Fine 15 Net, with the small split that inspired the Net grade far overshadowed by the blue signatures and pretty appearance of this truly rare note.
