West Virginia First Charter $20
Charlestown, WV - $20 1875 Fr. 431 The First NB of Jefferson Ch. # 1868A very scarce type and denomination for West Virginia with only eleven 1875 $20s enumerated in the census for the entire state. This piece is a new addition to that group and is from a rare bank to boot. The FNB of Jefferson issued only First and Second Charter notes before closing in 1903, and before tonight, had only three survivors reported. Some edge roughness and pinholes are in evidence on this PCGS Apparent Fine 15 example, but the design details remain quite bold.
