Description

Sherman $10 Red Seal

Sherman, TX - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The Merchants & Planters NB Ch. # (S)3159
A plain rare note as it is the only $10 Red Seal that is enumerated in the census for this Grayson County bank outside of the lone example that is locked away in the Philpott/Moody Foundation holdings. Also, not a single Red Seal on this charter number has crossed the auction block since 2001. The M&P circa 1900 was once the largest bank between St. Louis and Galveston due to having many railroad accounts and because it was a correspondent bank for many Territory of Oklahoma and Indian Territory institutions. This piece was once signed by the "Asst" cashier and "V" president. The Apparent grade is for having the lower left corner replaced. Deft hands accomplished this skillful repair, as it can only be viewed when the note is "candled," that is, held in front of a light source. PCGS Apparent Fine 12.
