Description

North Carolina April 2, 1776 $2 1/2 Liberty cap over altar PCGS Apparent Very Fine 30.
Although the red ink signature of William Williams has faded, all four signatures can be seen on this $2 1/2 note, one of two designs for the denomination. The emblem on this variety is a liberty cap at the end of a stick being held over an altar. The motto is LIBERTAS & NATALE SOLUM which translates as "Liberty and our native land." The fact that the note was severed and reattached, tears and the lower left corner repaired resulted in the apparent grade.
