Gorgeous Rantoul, IL $50 Brown Back
Rantoul, IL - $50 1882 Brown Back Fr. 518 The First NB Ch. # 5193A gorgeous $50 Brown Back that last appeared in our 2008 sale of the Tom Flynn collection where we described it as: "one of three $50 Brown Backs known from this Champaign County locale. Fortunately for collectors, it is an exceedingly attractive piece, with bright colors, a sharp overprint, and neat pen signatures. This piece made its first public appearance in a 1990 Stack's sale, and has been off the market since Tom obtained it over fifteen years ago in our May, 1993 St. Louis sale. PCGS has graded this note About New 50, a grade with which we heartily concur." It realized a healthy $14,950 in that sale and should do about the same today.
