Description

Wash Drawing and Vignette "Gun Boats" by Charles Parsons. The picture is attractively matted and measures 9 1/4" by 4 7/8" inside the matte. The ABN proof vignette is on India paper mounted on cardstock, with an image that measures approximately 3 1/2" by 1 3/4". The artist, Charles Parsons (1821-1910), immigrated to the U.S. from England at the age of nine, and worked for G. Endicott & Co., with whom he became a partner. He also did work for J.C. Butre and in 1860 he was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design (NAD). At that time he went to work for Harpers, where he became head of the art department in 1862. He remained in this capacity until 1889, when he retired. He was a frequent exhibitor at NAD. (Total: 2 items)
