Description

Fayetteville, NY- Bank of Fayetteville $5 18__ UNL Proof PMG About Uncirculated 50.
The Bank of Fayetteville opened in 1854 and was succeeded in 1865 by the National Bank of Fayetteville, charter 1110. This attractive and likely unique $5 Proof depicts the state Bank Department die at center. At either end of the piece are two young girls, and at lower center is a large red FIVE overprint. This note was printed by Wellstood, Hanks, Hay & Whiting and features a rarely seen, rather unique layout with a large frame surrounding the bank title, payment text, and officer signatures. Our current offering comes out of the Wellstood archives that were discovered and sold a number of years ago. It is printed on India paper mounted to cardstock with four punch cancellations in the signature spaces. PMG mentions corner tears at lower left, lower right, and upper right.
