Description
Canastota, NY- Canastota Bank $20 185_ G10 Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.The Canastota Bank opened in 1856 and was in operation until 1865, when it was succeeded by the Canastota National Bank, charter 1525. This intricately designed piece details several steps in the process of preparing hops for use. At upper left is a farm family harvesting the hops, while at lower right is a depiction of the harvested hops being loaded onto a horse drawn wagon. The design is completed at lower center by the state Bank Department die. Printed on India paper with four punch cancellations in the signature lines, this example is identifiable as a former part of the ABNCo Archives by its boldly applied pink stamp on the back at left. PMG has awarded our current offering the EPQ designation for original, bright white paper surfaces.
