Description

(Macon), MS- State of Mississippi $50 Apr. 1, 1865 Cr. 49 PMG About Uncirculated 53.
There were three denominations issued for this last wartime series of 1865 Mississippi state notes. Apparently, very few were actually issued, as the $20 and $100 denominations are known today only as remainders or falsely filled in. The $50 design did see time in circulation, as evidenced by the genuinely issued piece in this lot. Our current offering was lithographed by J.T. Paterson & Co. of Augusta, GA, a firm which also printed several Confederate Treasury Notes. PMG mentions an annotation which is a penciled Criswell number located at upper left on the back.
