Marshall, MI- G,A, Colby & Brother 50¢ Nov. 1, 1862 Lee MAS-2-4 Remainder PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ.
Gilbert A. and James S. Colby operated a flour mill on Marshall Avenue in Marshall between 1860 and 1867. Their notes were payable at banks in Niles, Dowagiac, and Marshall, MI, in current bank notes when sums of even dollars were presented. The design features a vignette of wheat and two barrels of flour, with one identified as Herndon Mills / xxx / 196. This remainder note has four POCs in the signature line.
