Description

Binghamton, NY- Broome County Bank $5 18__ UNL Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
In 1831, the Broome County Bank opened its doors, and it was converted to a Free Bank in 1855. The institution operated in this manner until 1865, when it was succeeded by the National Broome County Bank of Binghamton, charter 1513. At left on this scarce $5 Proof, which was produced by Draper, Underwood, Bald & Spencer, a woman works with a spinning wheel, at right, another female holds a hoe and grain, and at center, a depiction of the Arts, Agriculture, and Knowledge is flanked by two "V" and "5" die counters. The note is printed on fully original India paper mounted to cardstock with signature cut outs. We have auctioned this exact piece just once previously. That offering in February 2022 brought $336.
