Description

Freehold, NJ- Farmers Bank of Freehold $1 July 4, 1851 as G2a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was organized in 1851 and, for reasons unclear today, decided to voluntarily close its doors on June 24, 1852, redeeming all of its circulation. The $1 design has a vignette of a farrier at work shoeing a horse, flanked by the state free banking die and an oval portrait of Daniel Webster. The note is printed on India paper with four POCs in the signature lines mounted on cardstock. Six examples of this note appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
