Franklin, LA- Price & Giddings at New Orleans & Texas Overland Mail Co. - C.S. Kelly Ticket Agent $2 January 1862 PMG Choice Fine 15.James Barry Price was a wealthy planter and an extensive operator of passenger vessels and over 20,000 miles of mail and express lines throughout the west and south. This note was undoubtedly used to facilitate the business linkages that existed between these business enterprises and the New Orleans & Texas Overland Mail Co. in New Orleans. Notes are known signed by both J.B. Price & Co. as well as by Price & Giddings, a later partnership. The attractive note is colorfully printed in red and green with a small horse vignette and a red TWO - 2 protector. We are aware of just two examples of this note at present.
