Description

Connecticut January 30, 1792 Letter Very Fine.
A letter to Comptroller A(ndrew) Kingsbury to settle the estate of General Gold S(elleck) Silliman (1732-90). Silliman was appointed as a colonel of the 4th Regiment of the Connecticut Militia. He was commissioned a brigadier general in 1776 and was charged with protecting the southwestern frontier of Connecticut from the British, who at the time occupied New York City and the surrounding area. Torey Loyalist forces kidnapped General Silliman from his home in May 1776. He was swapped during a prisoner exchange in 1777. Edge and internal splits are along the fold lines. Two partial wax seals are present and we also observe edge paper loss. Dimensions are 8 by 13 inches.
