Description
Fernandina, FL- Bank of Fernandina $5 Feb. 1, 1860 G2a Benice 4 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20.The charter for this bank was approved on January 15, 1859, under the state general incorporation laws rather than under the banking laws. During the Civil War, the bank moved to Starke in March 1862, when Union forces captured Fernandina. The bank's ultimate fate is uncertain, although it is not very likely that it survived the end of the Civil War by many years. The $5 note features a wonderful vignette of a steamer arriving in harbor that is accentuated by striking red end panels. PCGS Banknote mentions lightly penciled initials on the back that have little if any effect on anything. This note is always very popular with collectors and would be a great representative for Florida in a state collection.
