Description
West Winsted, CT- Hurlbut Bank $20 18__ as G28 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.The bank was organized in 1855 and remained in business until becoming the Hurlbut National Bank a decade later. The $20 design features Liberty reclining by a shield depicting a 20, flanked by vignettes of a horseman at left and a Revolutionary War era soldier at right. The absence of the state banking die and a space for the Register's signature indicate that this design was prepared for the bank when it planned to be operating as a chartered bank, rather than as a free bank. The note is printed on India paper with four POCs in the signature lines. There were twelve examples of this note in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
