Description

Inverted "S" Surcharge Error Milton 2E25F.6 25¢ Second Issue Experimental PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
An Experimental Front printed from the finished face plate on thin bond paper, and the bronze oval has been added. The back lacks engraving and has only the bronze "S-18-63" surcharges and the large bronze "25" denomination counter. This example has the usual two half-moon cancels and a purple rubberstamped "SPECIMEN" diagonally through the portrait. PMG has also noted that this well preserved Specimen has an inverted "S" in its surcharge. The curlicue (anvil) in the "S" should be on the bottom, but the curlicue (anvil) is on the top when the "S" is inverted, as in this case. The other end of the "S" surcharge is known as the "diamond" and this inverted example has the "diamond" on the bottom. This Experimental has all three surcharges well defined.
