Description

Little Rock, AR- State of Arkansas $2 Nov. 20, 1873 Cr. UNL PMG Very Good 10.
A quite elusive State of Arkansas note is offered in this lot. At upper left on this beautiful NBNCo production is a bustling scene depicting of startled horses, and at lower right is an allegorical depiction of Industry. The face also showcases a brown border around the edges of the note and a detailed brown overprint at center, as well as an ornate brown back. In Hugh Shull's 2007 reference A Guide Book of Southern States Currency, the author did not record this denomination. Though a listing was created in Arkansas Obsolete Notes and Scrip by Matt Rothert, Sr., the design was designated as "None Reported." Our current offering is the second $2 example from this series that we are aware of. We offered the first deuce known in October 2021. It was certified at the PMG VG 8 level with edge damage and realized $482. PMG mentions paper damage on this note, a minor condition impairment when considering this representative's great rarity.
