Description

Fr. 1229 5¢ First Issue PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
This no-monogram variety is by far the rarer of the two types. The grade, which appears completely accurate, does not tell the whole story of this note. The sharpness of the printing is proof quality, and the colors are top flight. The note also has most all of its selvage at the bottom, with some charming light pencil pricing information from a long-gone dealer. His price at the time was $4. It's easily erasable without a trace, but generations of collectors have chosen to leave it, as it adds to the history of the note. Our previous sale records for this note in this exact grade are widely spaced, ranging from the mid-$300s to an outlier $1119.
