Description

Carlisle, PA- Carlisle Bank $5 18__ Proof G16 as Hoober 53-3 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The Carlisle Bank was organized in 1814 and remained in business until closing in the 1840s. The $5 design features Commerce seated, flanked by two allegorical maidens at center with a very small train vignette at bottom center. Identical vignettes of Ceres seated anchor both ends of the note which is printed on India paper mounted on card without any POCs or other cancels. It is very likely that there are only two surviving Proofs of this design.
