Header "West Point Army Mess. Dated August 27, 1897. At the request of Lieut. Pershing the privileges of the Club are extended to you for ten days." Rubber stamped J.B. Bellinger as Treasurer. To Major Huxford.

John Joseph Pershing returned to West Point in 1897 as an instructor, where he was assigned to Cadet Company A. He was given a nickname which evolved into the moniker he came to be known by for the rest of his military career. "Black Jack" Pershing was blessed with a storied military career and ultimately achieved the highest rank allowed during his lifetime of "General of the Armies."
