Description
Tiverton, RI- Tiverton Bank $3 18__ G6 Durand 2238 Proof PMG Choice About Unc 58, POCs.The bank was incorporated in 1855 but suspended in 1857 due to the Panic of 1857. The $3 sports a panoramic vignette that spans the entire width of the note depicting Justice and Liberty seated by an approximation of the New York State Coat of Arms. The center of the vignette is flanked by a steamboat and passenger train in the distance. This note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. There is a small paper thin just above the second POC from the left. There were ten examples of this design in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and Haxby was also aware of this design in Proof form suggesting a surviving Proof population of perhaps fourteen or so examples.
