New York, NY- H.B. & C. D. Rockwell Merchants Bank of Savings by Rockwell Brothers Advertising Note ND PMG Very Fine 30.This is the first example of its kind we have offered. The Rockwell Brothers were apparently "importers and manufacturers of paper hangings" located at 21 Courtlandt St. in New York. The use of "Merchants Bank" on the note is probably a play on the Merchants Bank in New York City, which was a contemporaneously successful and well known banknote issuer, located less than half a mile away from this advertising note issuer.
