Description

Excessively Rare Eau Claire $5 First Charter

Eau Claire, WI- $5 Original Fr. 399 The First NB Ch. # 2069
An excessively rare note from a bank which issued First Charter notes only before liquidating in 1878. By 1910, a mere $510 was still outstanding from the bank. Our records show just one appearance of any note from this institution at public sale during the past sixty years, meaning that only one Wisconsin collector within living memory has been able to obtain any example from this prohibitively rare bank within the past two generations. In many respects this example is similar to the note from Sparta, Wisconsin, which, in just about the same grade and with just about the same statistics sold just a couple of months ago for over $24,000. We don't expect this pleasing Fine example to reach quite that figure, but its genuine rarity and true collector demand could easily allow it to come awfully close.
