The Industrial Bank of China was a joint venture between French businessmen and the Chinese Government. Banknote issuing privilege was granted, but it was revoked less than a decade later due to default. All issued notes, along with corresponding Specimen and Proofs are very rare today. This 500 Dollars, prepared for Shanghai, would have been the highest denomination of the series. To date, it is unknown in issued form, leaving prototypes such as this as the only method to acquire this stunning banknote.
