Description
Rwanda Banque Nationale du Rwanda 500 Francs 15.5.1961 Pick 4a PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.An iconic banknote design and a rare embossed issue for Rwanda. While new banknotes were in the process of design, print, and delivery, previous stock of Rwanda-Burundi notes were embossed and issued in Rwanda. From a direct angle, the embossed seal of the Banque Nationale is admittedly difficult to see, but on this note it can be partially seen on the back, near the left margin. At the time of cataloging, this high denomination rarity is the single finest graded of only six notes in the PMG Population Report. These overprinted notes were issued in 1962 and circulated until 1964, at which time, new banknotes arrived from the overseas printer. A very rare type in an outstanding grade.
