Description
One of Only 11 Known Examples of Friedberg 327
Fr. 327 $50 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 20.An extreme rarity, with only 11 total notes reported in the Track & Price census, only six of which have reached the auction block. The finest third party graded example to have auctioned was a PCGS 35 which realized $103,500 in June of 2011. This note will be only the third time a third party graded Friedberg 327 has auctioned. PMG has graded this note VF 20 and attributed it as, "Ex. Amon Carter" and also mentioned, "Minor Restoration," although the note has not been net graded. Careful scrutiny fails to reveal the location of the restoration, but it is clearly minor. Although there were several major design changes from 1878 through 1891, the only vignette to appear on all of the notes is statesman and orator Edward Everett. Although Everett is perhaps best known for his lengthy oration at Gettysburg, he also served as Secretary of State in 1852 and 1853 during Millard Fillmore's presidency.
