One of the Finest 1928 $500 Gold Certificates Known
Fr. 2407 $500 1928 Gold Certificate. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64
EPQ.Serial number A00070152A is a beautiful $500 Gold possessing excellent color, natural paper wave, and Treasury Seal embossing. It has had only one previous auction appearance and that was at our August 2014 ANA auction. It was in a PCGS 64PPQ holder and realized $58,750. Since then it has been crossed over to a PMG 64 EPQ holder. PMG has graded only two examples equal and four higher. Also, PMG has graded in total 111 Fr. 2407 notes and only 15 in all grades have achieved the EPQ grade modifier. The last couple of years have seen this grade skyrocket in price in our auctions. We had another PMG 64 EPQ with serial number A00013088A fetch $114,000 in January 2023. The same note was auctioned by us once again in May 2024 and this time it realized $132,000. With those results in mind, look for one of the finest 1928 $500 Golds known in this lot to surpass those earlier figures.
