Handsome and Extremely Rare Shanghai Branch Remainder

China Asiatic Banking Corporation, Shanghai 25 Taels ND (ca. 1860s) Pick S117Br Remainder PCGS Choice About New 58.
A handsome and pretty type, prepared for the Shanghai branch of the Asiatic Banking Corporation between 1862 and 1866. This bank rose to prominence quickly, and folded equally quickly. Issued notes seem to only exist for the Ceylon branch, and otherwise, remainders, Proofs, and Specimen may be the only relics of this short-lived issuer. This 25 Taels is almost fully printed, except for a date, serial numbers, and signatures. All printed design elements present well considering this Remainder is over 150 years old. A foreign bank type for China that is virtually unseen and worthy of serious consideration.
