Grinnell Fr. 708* Choice Unc 63 PPQ
Fr. 708* $1 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Star Note PCGS Banknote
Choice Unc 63 PPQ.Serial number A41* is plated on pages 22, 34, and 34 of the first (1985), second (1996), and third (2007) editions of The Complete Catalog of United States Large Size Star Notes 1910-1929 by Douglas D. Murray. This star was originally reported to Mr. Murray in January 1976 as CU and it is still in that condition today. It is the lowest serial number known for the Friedberg number with A42* close on its heels. The star note in this lot can also be traced even further back, as it was lot 4596 in Part VI of the auction of the Albert A Grinnell Collection held on June 29, 1946. The serial number is listed in the description with the comments of, "Rare, Crisp, Unc." It brought $13.50 on that day and it remains rare to this day. The 2007 third edition of Murray enumerates 12 serial numbers, and Track & Price has added only two more Fr. 708* examples in the intervening 16 years.
