Description

Choice Tombstone Note

Fr. 303 $10 1908 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The Series 1908 $10 Silver Certificate, depicting Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks who died in office in 1885, was a memorial design, first issued shortly after his death. Series 1908 was the last large size $10 silver certificate design issued, having a large blue X added at left on the face. Of the 303 examples of this Friedberg number currently registered in the PMG Population Report, only one note is recorded with a higher grade. PMG mentions minor repairs or discolorations which are not overly distracting. High grade pieces are surprisingly scarce with only infrequent public auction appearances. This example last crossed the auction block for $6,600 in our 2023 CSNS US Currency Signature Auction.
