Spectacular 1869 Rainbow Twenty - Tied for the Finest Graded at Both Services

Fr. 127 $20 1869 Legal Tender PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
A spectacular Rainbow Twenty with wonderful color, huge margins (as attested to by PMG), and unbeatable eye appeal. PMG has graded just this note and two others at this grade level with nothing higher out of a total of 107 examples they have seen. PCGS, both old and new, has similar numbers. This beautiful note, which traces its provenance to our auction of The Tom Flynn Collection in 2008, was last on the market in our 2013 FUN auction where it cracked the six-figure mark with a final realization of $105,750. Considering that we auctioned a PCGS Banknote 67 PPQ example two years ago for $114,000, that benchmark from eleven years ago is very likely to be exceeded tonight.
