Description
Scarcer Friedberg Number for the $2 Legal Tender Design
Fr. 53 $2 1880 Legal Tender PMG About Uncirculated 55.One of only 58 Fr. 53 deuces listed in Track & Price. Excellent color is observed on both sides of this full margined plate letter D piece. Embossing of the letters "U" and "R" in the Treasury Seal is found in the unprinted area at left on the back. Inks remain dark on this lightly handled example, too. A horizontal center fold and a trivial corner fold is the only circulation we can find through the third party holder. PMG has not graded any equal and only six higher of this number. This is also one of the much scarcer numbers for this design that consists of Frieberg numbers 42-60. The T&P Summary View sheds light on the fact that they have enumerated only four of those Friedberg numbers with smaller population figures than Fr. 53.
