Rare Series 1878 $2 - One of About Two Dozen Known
Fr. 49 $2 1878 Legal Tender PCGS Very Fine 30.One of the classic rarities of Large Size Type, this note is one of just twenty two examples reported for this Friedberg number. It is also one of the highest graded examples whether you are looking at Track & Price or the two major grading services' databases. A lone note above Very Fine was offered at auction, a PMG 45 EPQ, which is the finest graded and realized $31,200. This is an attractive mid-grade $2, even with some minor edge restorations, which can only be found after close examination. Its colors are ideal for the amount of wear, and the note maintains an overall pleasing appearance.
