Description

Low Serial D38A Fr. 785 $5 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent.
Serial number D38A is a new note for Track & Price as our consignor acquired it at auction in 1988. It is a nicely preserved example with excellent color. It has minor mounting remnants in the upper corners on the back. The Cleveland district only issued $1, $2, and $5 FRBNs and low serial numbers are known for all three denominations. The collectors of today must applaud the efforts of fellow paper money collector, assistant cashier and head of the cash department of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank Charles Bickford, who saved and preserved many low serial numbers amongst those three denominations. This information was recited in the William Philpott article found at www.spmc.org - "Federal Reserve Bank Notes, Series 1915-1918" in Paper Money, Society of Paper Money Collectors, Fall 1963, Vol. II, No. 4, Whole. No. 8, pages 5-12.
