Description

Massachusetts October 16, 1778 4d PMG Uncirculated 62.
From the second date and back style for the Revere "Codfish" bills, this note features the emblematic images of the codfish and pine tree: the mainstays of the Massachusetts economy. The October 16, 1778 notes used the Thomas Fleet back without imprint (as opposed to the 1776 Gill-printed backs). They are sometimes encountered in choice condition. This pence denomination from the issue is sharply printed for the type and has superior face-to-back registration. The PMG Population Report shows a single Choice CU 63 ahead of this satisfying note. Results from our recent Coltrane sales show great interest in these notes for type.
