Description

Fr. 1215 $100 1922 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Very Fine 35.
This is an attractive well printed note on bright paper with excellent colors and eight full clear margins. The note depicts Senator Thomas Hart Benton (1782-1858) of Missouri, known to many as Old Bullion. His appearance on this Gold Certificate was quite appropriate as his proposed legislation served as the inspiration for the Specie Circular (1836) which required gold or silver to be used for land purchases (although this requirement is believed by many to be one of the causes of the Panic of 1837). The bright orange back features a striking eagle vignette. PMG mentions closed pinholes which do not easily betray their presence through the holder.
