Black Eagle Even Hundred Serial Number Set
Even Hundred Serial Numbers Fr. 233 $1 1899 Silver Certificates
Nine Examples PMG Graded.A nice run of even hundred (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900) Z-Z block Black Eagles with each EPQ example exhibiting strong serial number embossing. Serials 400, 500, 800, 900 grade Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ, 200, 300 grade Choice Uncirculated 63 EPQ, and 100, 600, and 700 grade Choice About Unc 58 EPQ. The triple digit serial numbers for these notes were applied by hand by ladies who worked at the BEP with the help of a "paging" machine applying only one serial number of two per note at a time. In fact, serial numbers from 1 to 1000 were applied with "paging" machines from 1903 to 1927. This procedure was discontinued and the BEP stopped numbering the first 10,000,000 of each block. With the onset of small size paper money in 1929, the BEP would get around this labor intensive "paging" machine procedure by using leading zeros in the serial numbers whenever necessary in order to produce eight-digit serial numbers. The triple digit serials are slightly askew on the nonet in this lot because they were applied by hand. Overall, a great set that has already been completed for the next owner. (Total: 9 notes)
