Fr. 121* $10 1901 Mule Legal Tender Star PMG About Uncirculated
50.A rare Bison star note with serial number *423575B that was originally reported to the Murray Star Census in April 1978. The last two of years of the 1980s saw it as part of two different auctions and a fixed price list before landing in the Herman Halpern Collection. Our consignor obtained it when that collection was auctioned in 1993. It is once more available to the collector community after a 29 year absence. It sports excellent color and embossing of the upper right serial number. PMG has graded 23 Fr. 121* notes with the piece in this lot being the second highest graded without a single example equal. Only a few of these stars have been in auctions in the 21st century as Track & Price documents only five serial numbers before this lightly handled Bison star is added to the mix. This tells us that as far as Bison stars go, they are in really strong hands, and especially so for this Friedberg number. Therefore, our estimate may prove to be conservative in the least when the hammer falls tonight.
