Serial Number 1 "Circus Poster" $5 Brown Back

Serial Number 1 Tyler, TX - $5 1882 Brown Back Fr. 469 The First National Bank Ch. # 3651 PMG Very Fine 20.
This wonderful Texas note has everything going for it - first of all, it is one of just four pieces reported from an extremely rare Smith County bank that was only in business from 1887 until its failure in 1896. Secondly, it is an attractive Serial Number 1 note that was obviously saved by a proud bank employee after the bank opened its doors. Thirdly, it displays the very popular "Circus Poster" title layout that only appears on the notes from a handful of banks across the country. Last on the market in the sale of The Power Collection in 2006, it is a well margined piece with pleasing color and bold pen signatures. PMG has commented about a restoration on this attractive mid-grade Texas rarity, but any such repair is not distracting at all.
